SYNOPSIS of "The Darkening" “The Darkening” is a suspense/horror film set in the Midwest. The story centers around a young married man, James Harrison, who witnesses his mother’s murder at age eight and when he returns home after being gone for twenty years, becomes the main suspect in a string of killings in the town. James returns to his hometown of Fairview after twenty years with his wife to sell the old house in which his mother was brutally murdered by Kyle Burnett, a deaf & dumb brute of a man, and in which James was left with a reminder, a scar on his throat, by Kyle and nightmares that won't end. Soon after James returns, he begins experiencing blackouts while continuing his therapy in Fairview with a local Psychiatrist. With the onset of the "Darkening", as Doctor Phillips calls it, James finds himself living between two worlds, the world of light..and life, and the world of darkness. When a "bound doll" that the doctor has Kyle Burnett contruct as an aid to James' therapy disappears, the small town is suddenly rocked by brutal killings that are mirroring the M.O. of the murderer that killed James mother. Haunted by a bloody vision of himself at eight years old and and a strange connection to a man in a black raincoat, James begins to experience memories of the murders in perfect detail. As the murders continue, James is taken deep into his subconscious by the doctor to discover the horrifying truth that is hidden deep inside...the darkening. PRODUCTION of "The Darkening"
Young Films LLC is producing the independent horror film. Young Films LLC is comprised mainly of family members (See insert) who have been actively involved in film production since conception in 1997, shooting films in Nebraska and Canada. During the short film shoot (Manimals starring a young Chris Klein), the entire family actively participated in the film from working on the set to working behind the scenes providing food and drinks to the actors and crew on the set. On “Love Wine” (Their first full feature film) the four brothers (Tom, Bill, Jerry, and Danny) and Jeff Randall joined Jackie on the set on Pelee Island in Ontario Canada (See picture insert) to work with the crew and support production in various aspects. Jackie Young not only wrote the screenplay but executive produced the film. Young Films and Publishing LLC, a family run film company with offices in Rockford, Illinois and Omaha, Nebraska, The company produces independent films and publishes film-related books. Their books, “Family Movies Hollywood Didn’t Make But Should”, “Romantic Comedies Hollywood Didn’t make But Should” and “How To Write a Screenplay In 3-Days: The Marathon Method” are available on Amazon.com or from the Young Films web site. Their latest film project, “The Darkening” is a throwback to Alfred Hitchcock type suspense films with some serious twists in the plot. It has an ending guaranteed to blindside the viewer. The company will be using actors and actresses from the local area and shooting the entire film on location in the local area. Jack Young, who wrote the screenplay, will direct the film while Dan Young will act as Director of Photography. Other lead positions on and behind the set will also be filled by family members.
Auditions will be held on May, 28th and May 29th at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 4848 Turner Street, Rockford, Illinois. Auditions for Lead and bit roles will be held from 4:30PM to 10:00 PM on May 28th for actor parts for 18 to 30 year olds. Auditions for Lead and bit roles will be held from 9:00AM to 6:00 PM on May 29th for actor parts for 30 to 50 year olds. There are many bit parts and extra roles available. Actors auditioning will receive a FREE copy of the Young Films film “Love Wine” on DVD (While supplies last). Jack also wanted to extend an invitation to those local residents who know Jack and the Young Family to stop by and visit the set when filming starts. We had out first production meeting on Saturday (July 10th) with the actors. Everyone was enthusiastic about shooting the
film. The producer/director announced to everyone that the shooting schedule had been moved out until Spring to
allow more time for actor rehearsals and securing locations. We are still looking for a few actors. See below.
